This pre-Civil War-era fort is the highlight of this portion of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Guided tours are available, as well as park programs in the Fort Pickens Museum, exhibiting U.S. Army memorabilia and the site of Geronimo's imprisonment from 1886 to 1888. Some of the area's most exquisite beaches await your discovery along this seven-mile strip of Santa Rosa Island. Camping, picnic shelters, concessions, a campground store and hiking & biking trails provide fun-filled diversions for the entire family. The fort is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from April through October; from November through March hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Park rangers narrate free guided tours Monday through Friday at 2 p.m. and at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on weekends. |
